  1. How is NuSource’s ConnectDirect different than other Internet resume services?

ConnectDirect is different in several important ways:

¨    ConnectDirect specifically services the nuclear industry market for contract help.  Monster.com and the other “mega-boards” do not have a targeted focus. We believe that when someone is looking to hire a contractor in the nuclear market they will find that ConnectDirect is much more efficient and effective than having to wade through the millions of resumes on one of the mega-boards.

¨    ConnectDirect allows employers to quickly and easily locate the most qualified people, and contact them quietly and confidentially.  There is no need to let everyone in the industry know that you’re trying to find some key people.  We think this feature will be of great value to architect/engineers and consulting companies, especially when recruiting to fill positions in competitive situations.

¨    ConnectDirect is primarily for connecting contract workers with jobs in the nuclear industry. Most other Internet resume services focus on finding people for direct placement as regular employees.

¨    ConnectDirect provides a single place where contract workers can keep their contact information and resume current. No longer do they need to send resumes to dozens of different companies in hopes that they will be considered for an opening and that the company will know where to contact them.

¨    The ConnectDirect database is available to NuSource client companies to search for no charge. This assures that all contract workers in the database who meet the search criteria established by the hiring company for a position they are trying to fill are presented to the hiring manager. The hiring company only incurs a cost for the use of ConnectDirect database when they actually find a qualified individual via our service.

  1. ConnectDirect is targeted at contractors. Is there anything that stops a hiring manager from finding direct hires?

No. While not specifically targeted at the direct hire market, the ConnectDirect database does allow hiring managers to locate highly qualified people who would make great direct employees. Our contractual terms on use of the ConnectDirect database specifically allows for this type of placement.

  1. If a utility finds me through ConnectDirect, who hires me for the job?

ConnectDirect is an information service, not a contract agency.  When discussions between a contractor and the utility hiring manager have progressed to the point that it looks like a good match, the hiring manager refers you to whoever the utility has selected to service their contract worker payroll.  You may get referred to a contract agency with whom the utility has negotiated reduced fees for cases where they refer the worker; you may get referred to a company that specializes in payroll servicing (and not recruiting); it’s even possible the utility may hire you through a company they own which services payroll for their temporary workforce.

  1. I’m a contractor. Should I negotiate my rate with the utility hiring manager?

The answer is, always let the utility hiring manager take the lead on issues related to pay rate.  Different utilities have different rules on what hiring managers can and cannot discuss when looking for candidates.  Most typically, hiring managers will select one or more qualified candidates based on technical capabilities and other non-pay rate related factors.  Negotiations for pay rate will usually happen with the company that the utility has selected to service their contract worker payroll.

In some cases, the utility hiring manager may raise the issue of pay rate in either a general or specific way.  Follow that lead and respond appropriately.  But remember that in most cases the final pay rate will be established in discussions with the company which will actually hire you, the same as it does now.

  1. Do A/E’s, consultants, staff aug agencies and other technical service firms have access to the ConnectDirect database?

Yes. ConnectDirect is an information service, not a contract agency, and it is available to these companies. We strive to give the contract workers the broadest possible exposure of their qualifications throughout the nuclear market.
